frequently asked questions
We know the process can feel complex. That’s why we’ve compiled answers to your most common questions—all in one place.
What makes BRB different from other consulting organizations?
We’re not just consultants — we’re active CARF surveyors and former providers. We’ve walked in your shoes, from frontline care to executive decision-making. That means we understand the standards from both sides and know how to make them work and integrate them into your world. CARF does not have to be a bad word!
Do we have to be a certain size or type of organization?
Not at all. We work with small nonprofits, multi-site systems, and everything in between — behavioral health, medical rehabilitation, opioid treatment, employment services, child and youth services, aging services, foster and residential programs, and shelters to name a few.
If you need help, BRB is ready to help you now— no matter where you’re starting.
Does BRB just “get us ready” for a survey, or help us build long-term systems?
Both. Some organizations just need survey prep and polish. Others want help building systems and training staff so they can keep things running smoothly year after year. We’ll meet you where you are and help you get where you want to be. BRB is your partner as long as you want us – short term or long term.
Will you do the work for us?
We’re collaborators, not bulldozers. We’ll do as much of the work as you prefer — from general reviews to policy development — but we’ll make sure your team stays engaged every step of the way. Why? Because it’s important that your staff understand the standards and the process, not just “check the boxes.”
Everything we do is tailored to your organization, especially in clinical areas, so you end up with systems that actually work for you — not generic templates that gather dust after survey day.
Do you offer virtual support or only on-site visits?
Both. We offer teleconferencing, virtual consultations, and hybrid options to keep things flexible (and cost-effective). We often do mock surveys or targeted in-person support when a hands-on presence adds value. We’re careful to make sure our time (and your budget) is used wisely.
What if we’ve had issues in a past survey (or even dropped accreditation)?
No judgment here. We help organizations address recommendations (yes, including those 90-day QIPs), recover from past challenges, and rebuild confidence. We know where to start — and to help YOU move forward.
Do you work with organizations outside the United States?
Yes! We’ve supported clients across the U.S. and internationally, including Asia and the Middle East. Whether you’re across town or across the world, BRB understands the standards and can support your organization.
What does it cost to work with BRB?
It depends on what you need and where you are in the process.
- Are you just beginning accreditation?
- Looking for a tune-up before your next survey?
- Or do you need full-scale support and hands-on help?
We tailor our services for your size and budget, even for very small organizations. You only pay for the time we spend with you — whether that’s consultation, reviewing/editing documents, or working through specific activities you request. We’ll help you build a plan that fits your needs and your resources.
Will I work with just one consultant?
No — you’ll get our whole team. Each of us has specific expertise — clinical operations, workforce development, performance improvement, accreditation prep, and more. You’ll work with the right experts for each area, but we collaborate behind the scenes so you benefit from the collective experience and ideas of our entire team.
How much lead time do we need before our survey?
More time is always better, but we understand real life happens. We can do last-minute triage when needed, or start a few months in advance to support a strategic and integrated approach for the entire team. BRB will make it work.
What kind of results can we expect?
BRB has a 100% success rate with organizations we support through their survey process. But more than that, our clients leave with systems and tools that can sustain ongoing success long after the survey team is gone.
