Valerie Summerlin

Valerie Summerlin, RN, MS, NEA-BC, CLSSGB has more than 40 years of experience in post-acute services, including chronic care, sub-acute, rehabilitation, and home health.

As a senior healthcare executive/nurse executive, Valerie has expertise in:

  • Strategic planning
  • Organizational and patient flow redesign
  • Process mapping
  • Employee engagement
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Cost reduction
  • Program development
  • Performance improvement initiatives

She has also served for over 20 years as a CARF surveyor.

Valerie holds a Master’s degree in Nursing (Clinical Nurse Specialist) from the University of Maryland School of Nursing and was the first recipient of the American Lung Association’s nursing scholarship, focused on Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).

She is certified as a Nurse Executive Advanced (ANCC) and as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (CLSSGB).

Valerie’s leadership highlights include:

  • Opening the Rehabilitation Center at Kernan Hospital in Baltimore
  • Closing a chronic hospital and transitioning services
  • Publishing in Trauma Nursing (4th & 5th editions) and Case Studies in Trauma Nursing
  • Leading COVID field hospitals and infusion centers in Maryland, treating over 4,000 patients

Outside of work, Valerie enjoys reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
